"'There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways...their magical prowess - their daring - their powers of deduction - and, of course, their ability to cope with danger.'"

The Triwizard Tournament is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter - but that doesn't stop Harry dreaming that he will win the competition. Then at Hallowe'en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is amazed to find his name is one of those that the magical cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, dragons, and dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through - alive!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Book 4 Audible Audio Edition JK Rowling Jim Dale Pottermore Publishing Books Reviews

  • I think this is my third reading of the Harry Potter series. The first time is a precious memory to me. Our four children would all climb into our king size bed before bedtime and we would read one or two chapters each evening. We homeschooled so, as each child's reading progressed, they read a part too. Their mom died. They're in late 20s now. Five grandkids. Those will be ready to read to before we know it. But life is not always neatly packaged. I married a widow and moved us all. Today they are off to their own lives. My four and I are scattered across four states and even overseas. So, I'm reading to myself now. I can't make a stronger recommendation than to say that I immediately purchased "The Order Of The Phoenix" after finishing this one. I also have the set in hardbound on the bookshelf beside me. But is just too convenient. *smile*
  • To check my full review go to Inkish Kingdoms Wordpress! For more reviews and amazing pictures!

I loved that this book was very long, it gave to me the sensation that nothing will end and that the horrible moment of his return will never come... but it did and now I know that business is going down!

I believe that "Hermio ni ni's" importance was taken away on the movies. I knew that she was the reason why Potter was able to survive so long, but then I started reading the books... and she indeed was the reason why Harry did not die so long ago (besides other things). Now, I must confess that Harry seemed to be a useless kid, but then on the books my perspective changed completely. He might not be as good and such a prodigy as "Hermi ni ni", but he is not a coward, and he proves that he can give a fight.
  • I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter series, and it is definitely one of my favorite series that I have ever read. When I first started reading them I wasn't really sure that I would like them as I had unfortunately thought it was 'nerdy' when I was in school, and it was definitely a huge mistake! It is still a very good read as an adult, but I really wish that I had started reading them when they came out. I wanted my kids to be able to experience the magic of Harry Potter while they are young enough to believe in that kind of magic so we have started reading them together, and then watching the movie that coincides with the book. They love the series as well though I don't think they like it as much as me since my daughter 'teases' me about it. )

This book is captivating from the very first sentence. J.K. Rowling is a very gifted writer and is descriptive enough to be able to transport you to her world without being so wordy that you find yourself losing interest. If you have not read this book yet then read it! You will not be disappointed.
  • I got this book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, after my old copy got lost during a move. I just couldn't not have this book in my book collection! The Harry Potter books were the reason I fell in love with reading and make-believe worlds and I have JK Rowling to thank for that. The writer created a magical, wizarding world which will inevitably give you homey and warm feelings all over; by the end of this book, you'll want to be a wizard! The book is about a young boy, Harry Potter, and his adventures in Hogwarts (a wizarding school) after discovering he is a wizard by a very diverse, funny, warm and very big, Hagrid, the groundskeeper at Hogwarts. We're introduced to the rest of the trio, Hermione and Ron in Hogwarts. Rowling takes us through Harry's struggles at being an orphan, a newly wizard, and famous for surviving a curse by the darkest wizard of all times; it easily keeps you hooked! I loved the amazing character development we see with the trio, especially with Ron, who started out shy and awkward but slowly became braver.
This book is full of mystery, adventure, and multiple plot twists and I couldn’t be happier! The Harry Potter books are a must for any fantasy, magical readers. I rate it an easy 5 star! JK Rowling wrote a masterpiece and everyone (no matter the age) will fall in love with the wizarding world.
  • t was wonderful revisiting this story. The last time I did a reread was when I bought the illustrated edition and of course, it all started with me looking at the beautiful illustrations and the next thing you know I was lost to this world. Honestly, it never gets old.

Rowling’s writing is marvelous from pacing to her ability to express the character’s emotions. I know there are folks who have not yet read the series (gasps). I, of course, cannot recommend them enough regardless of format. The movies are brilliant, but only scratch the surface of what the books and audios have to offer. If you love Harry Potter but have never tried audio, this is the perfect time to listen.
  • OVERALL - I loved this book.

  • It was really confusing and I didn’t user stand maybe b/c I am only ten but it was really weird and half the time I was just thinking why am I reading this personally I think you should get a book like diary of a wimpy kid or dork diaries for people my age but if you are older an you like wizards and magic then I think you will enjoy this book

The Orphan Tale A Novel eBook Pam Jenoff Reviews

  • I just finished this book, and as I wipe away my tears I have to tell you that this is an original, riveting story about courage, love, friendship, and family. A while back, someone asked if there were too many books written about WWII, and my answer was no....there are millions of stories to tell. The Orphan's Tale is a great example of this, telling a story about events and acts of bravery that I knew nothing about. In this masterful tale, Astrid is an aerialist whose family had owned a circus in Germany; but her family was Jewish, and had disappeared when she returned home after being cast aside by her husband, a German officer. Noa is a young girl whose single act of bravery leads her to the circus, an uncommon but welcome refuge for her. This story is told with such passion and enormous heart, with pulse-pounding suspense as Astrid, Noa, and the rest of their circus friends are under constant threat of the Nazis. I highly recommend this book to all book lovers; it is sure to enthrall everyone.
  • I go through several books a week. As soon as I finish one, I am ready with the next. The Orphan's Tale made me stop, wait, think and want to absorb it before I went on to the next book. I'll admit I am interested in books about WWII and oddly, about historic circus life. This was a fascinating blend of the two, so I was in heaven! This is a book I wish I'd written...the writing, the plot, the characters...I didn't want it to end. Do yourself a favor and read this one.
  • Based on the glowing reviews, I read this novel as I am a fan of WW II historical fiction. The story managed to capture me but by no means would I call it riveting or written with deep emotion. It's all fairly tenable how the relations come about, how Noa meets Astrid, the circus being the catalyst. Other charcters (Luc, Herr Neuhoff, Gerda, Emmet) play roles that help the story and the conclusion (no spoilers) does account for the fate of all the characters. That all said, I found the writing choppy, lacking a deep felt emotion of the characters (even the main ones) and thought the second half was a bit over-romanticized. Would I recommend it? Yes. Many may find a stronger emotional connection. I did not. So 3 stars for what I thought might be a 4.5 - 5 star going in.
  • When you think about WW II you think of all the people that were taken by the Nazi's because of their different believes, like Gypsies and a lot more. Never thought too much about what happened to the circus people. This book is giving you an inside of what happened during the war with the circus performers and that a lot of Jews were saved by performing at the circus. This was the case of Noa, a 16th year old girl from the Netherlands who was raped by a German soldier and got pregnant by him. As soon as the baby was born the Nazi's took the child away from her. She was thrown out of her parent's home and ended up at the circus where she found a little Jewish boy laying in a box car still alive. She took it with her and while living in the circus train she met Astrid who taught her how to be a aerialist (trapeze worker). First the women do not get along but over time a friendship starts to form and they help each other any way they can and take care of the little Jewish boy named Theo. Noa becomes friends with the circus people and many things happen during the time that she is with the circus. Unfortunately the head of the circus dies and there is hardly any money left to keep all the performers with the circus -which was kept a secret from the performers-. Towards the end of the book dramatic things are starting to happen and all you can do is hope and pray for a good outcome. I could not put this book down because it was for me very interesting and I felt so sorry for Noa that I shed several tears for her. This is a very good book to read and I recommend it to anyone.
  • I would like to thank the Publishers, HarperCollins, Mira, and Harlequin Enterprises Limited, as well as Pam Jenoff for the Advanced Reader’s Edition of “The Orphan’s Tale” by Pam Jenoff.
This has to be one of my favorite Pam Jenoff’s novels. The historical fiction novel takes place during World War Two, and the Holocaust. This is a turbulent and devastating period in history. Pam Jenoff’s description of the isolation and depravity of the towns and villages as well as the attitudes of people during this time period is extraordinary and exceptional.
The author has been so ambitious in weaving her tale, there is so much to absorb. One of the main characters, Noa,gets pregnant by a German soldier, and is forced to give up her baby. Noa’s family is intolerant and throws her out, where she is forced to clean near a railway station. Noa discovers a railroad car filled with Jewish babies, some alive, destined to a concentration camp, and decides to take one of the babies. She names him Theo, and is forced to escape in the ice and cold with no papers.
Noa winds up in a German Circus. The owner of the Circus, has tried to provide safety for Jewish people, and offers Noa a job.
At this time Noa meets Astrid, an acrobat in this circus. Astrid is Jewish, and was part of a Jewish Circus. Astrid is instructed to teach Noa how to do acrobatics. The two of them have a conflicted friendship based on a lack of trust and a need for survival. Astrid does not know where her family is, and is divorced.
We do meet a number of complex characters.
In my opinion, Pam Jenoff compares the indifference and immorality of people with courageous, caring people who offer hope, faith and love, and are willing to take risks.
Kudos to Pam Jenoff for telling an amazing story, and bringing a different perspective to light. I am left with so many provoking thoughts and questions. I highly recommend “The Orphan’s Tale as a wonderful novel of historical fiction genre.

  • This little gem has a heroine that is at the end of her rope with a sexy dominant male who has no intentions of cutting her loose. There are bad guys, smoking hot scenes played out between the two main characters, and a happy ending all packed into this little nugget. I recommend it!
  • What a wonderful sexy love story. Remy is trying to get money to pay her deceased brothers debt. She meet James on a BDSM auction and the sparks fly. This is a love at first site for James and he wants to keep Remy. Good story. Enjoy
  • This novella is dark and delicious!!! The sex scenes are super HOT!!! It had enough of bad guys... good guys... And save the girl and falling in love that made this story great. Love it
  • I loved it, it was hot well written, I loved that the female character didn't give up so easily, the male character was a hot alpha male can't beat that, definitely recommend this book.
  • Disappointed that there wasn't more to this story ! I loved it ! I hope to read more like this !
  • This dark novella is super hot. This insta-love is pure carnal delight of BDSM and delivers panty melting scenes. James saves Remy, and in turn she changes his life for good.
  • Just the right amount of suspense mixed with steam. Fantastic writing duo. My only complaint would be that I wanted a full story.

In the most comprehensive account to date of Walter Benjamin’s philosophy of language, Alexander Stern explores the nature of meaning by putting Benjamin in dialogue with Wittgenstein.

Known largely for his essays on culture, aesthetics, and literature, Walter Benjamin also wrote on the philosophy of language. This early work is famously obscure and considered hopelessly mystical by some. But for Alexander Stern, it contains important insights and anticipates―in some respects surpasses―the later thought of a central figure in the philosophy of language, Ludwig Wittgenstein.

As described in The Fall of Language, Benjamin argues that “language as such” is not a means for communicating an extra-linguistic reality but an all-encompassing medium of expression in which everything shares. Borrowing from Johann Georg Hamann’s understanding of God’s creation as communication to humankind, Benjamin writes that all things express meanings, and that human language does not impose meaning on the objective world but translates meanings already extant in it. He describes the transformations that language as such undergoes while making its way into human language as the “fall of language.” This is a fall from “names”―language that responds mimetically to reality―to signs that designate reality arbitrarily.

While Benjamin’s approach initially seems alien to Wittgenstein’s, both reject a designative understanding of language; both are preoccupied with Russell’s paradox; and both try to treat what Wittgenstein calls “the bewitchment of our understanding by means of language.” Putting Wittgenstein’s work in dialogue with Benjamin’s sheds light on its historical provenance and on the turn in Wittgenstein’s thought. Although the two philosophies diverge in crucial ways, in their comparison Stern finds paths for understanding what language is and what it does.

Moon Bahamas Travel Guide eBook Mariah Laine Moyle Reviews

  • This book with packed with useful information and insider tips - definitely a must-have companion if you're planning a trip to the Bahamas. The Bahamas can be difficult to navigate, especially if you want to explore more of the out islands, and this book is an indispensable resource, making confusing inter-island travel far more accessible. The photos are great too.
  • Just recieved my copy and spent some time perusing. I can't wait to read the entire thing in more detail. The pictures are great. The maps are perfect. The writing is easy to read and very informative. There are a ton on details for each island; where to eat, what to do, beaches to visit, and how to get around. I really love the Essentials section in the back. It contains a ton of info you need but would most likely forget to ask before traveling. Now, I just need to figure out how to visit each island!
  • Absolutely an incredible tool for either a seasoned traveler or a casual daydreamer like myself. I can't wait to experience all this guide has to offer! It's wonderfuly written easy to follow and Invision yourself at these discriptive locations! I'd give you more stars if I could, thank you!
  • Mariah has taken great lengths to complete this guide! As a fellow author one sees the workmanship in creating a fabulous concise guide through our fabulous country. This lovely book steers you wherever you may wish to explore through the maze of our archipelago of 700 islands scattered over 100,000 square miles of pristine ocean. Mariah has researched all the special places, the restaurants, the history & factual information, the ways of "getting there" and fabulous things to do! A first for the Bahamas, well done and a 'must own guide'!
  • It is very apparent the author knows these islands! Sharing with us all the wonderful and specials places to discover.
I loved the book and can't wait to return to the Bahamas, I only wish I had this guide when we visited Nassau in the
1980's! She has offered so many intriguing places to visit and many sites to discover. Im looking forward to using it
planning our next adventure to the 700 islands, just waiting for us to explore.
I would highly recommended this book to people looking for a unique experience of the Bahamas!

Refuting Rabbinic Objections to Christianity Messianic Prophecies edition by Eitan Bar Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

  • I'm a Messianic believer. I strongly believe that the Tenach and the Apostolic writings prove without doubt that Yeshua is the Messiah. I strongly disagree with groups who work very hard to prove that Yeshua is not the Messiah. However, after an Orthodox Jew many years called me on what he perceived as my inappropriate methods in sharing Yeshua, I took another look at myself and my movement and decided that we weren't careful enough about our own ethics. From that point of view I now share my perceptions of this book by Eitan Bar.

The book makes many allegations against famous and learned rabbis and other historical personages, but the book gives no citations to validate these comments. I note that in the Preface it is stated that the book was trying to take a "light" approach rather than making it an academic work. I decided to search validation of the references on my own which I did prior to writing this review.

First, I disagree with the book’s approach. When one is making such important allegations against people, I believe that it's important to remember Gen 121-3. A false allegation can be very dangerous. I think that with the level of serious statements that are made in this book that the author would want to be assured that all references could be easily validated. In fact, I did some high level searching and could NOT validate all the allegations. One that stands out is the allegation against Rabbi Eyal Karim, a candidate to be chief rabbi of the IDF. It appears that the rabbi and his supporters deny the charge and that there is enough evidence to support his refutation. It's my opinion that the book violates a basic principle found in Prov 1817 by not providing references and citations and by not providing all the information to support another viewpoint of the allegations.

Much of the author’s basic Biblical hermeneutic is good. However, in spite of the attempt to want to write a "light" book, I feel it's a mistake to forfeit citations that could support his evidence. Thus he's entered into a lashon hara situation that opens the book up to the charges of being no more than gossip and slander. This lack of putting a reputable face on our work as Messianic believers opens us up to great criticism from our critics and can appear to validate many of the criticisms against us that we are the ones that aren't openly honest in our presentations.

I pray that in future works that the author will help me to find the sources of his information so I can in good conscience use his material to share the Messiah with those who doubt the faith presented by the Apostolic writings.
  • I thank the Lord for the OneForIsrael ministry and for their faithful hearts, they have truly touched my life. Eitan Bar, who is as serious of a student of scripture as they come, has written a terrific book to help any (honest) skeptic find their Messiah in that "scroll of the book" where "it is written of Him."

This book graciously and thoughtfully answers a multitude of serious questions one may find themselves legitimately wrestling with. If that's you I pray that He who "neither slumbers nor sleeps" will give you the courage to read this book and see for yourself that your Messiah is indeed "Him of whom Moses in the Law and the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth".

May Gods face shine upon the OneforIsrael ministry, and may He who "stood among the myrtle trees that were in the ravine" stand by your side Eitan, as i'm sure you face many persecutions for preaching (the) good news to your brothers, " your kinsmen according to the flesh". Blessings my brother in Christ.
  • This is what you need to know about how to bring Jesus to Jew because it is very different than bringing the gospel to a gentile. I myself am a Messianic Jew. Compiled in this book is the numerous works Eiten has done against the Rabbinic objections to Jesus. If you want to understand why a Jew is dead set against believing in he is the Jewish Messiah and how to talk to a Jew about Jesus then you need to read this book. How many Christians are even remotely equipped to bring the gospel to a Jew? Most Jews are far more educated in what they believe than the average Christian. This book should be considered essential for all believers. Remember, salvation is first to the Jew and then to the gentile. I am One for Israel
  • I'm a new Christian and a non Jew. I've been following OneForIsrael.org for months now. I have learned so much about Jesus, my faith and Jewish history from their website and videos. Now this great book continues their commitment to telling the truth and exposing the misconceptions and outright lies that have kept the Jewish people from the wonderful truth of their heritage.
I deeply admire Eitan Bar and company for their work online and now in this amazing book. Keep it up guys!
Blessings from a gentile believer half the world away in Hawaii. -)
    - Bodhi Hutton
  • As a gentile, I believe that any true believer in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will have honest questions about the subject matter in this book. All of the videos on youtube that this book is a compilation of has been a tremendous help to my faith by making sense of all of the questions I had about the relationship of Jesus and his people.

Thank you for your ministry at One For Israel. Thank you for another wonderful resource. May God continue to use you to spread his gospel to the Jew first and then to the gentile!
  • This book is detailed, like a court case. No dumbing-down for silly Christians. You have to use your noodle and your bible to follow along. And that would be a real bible -- not something man-made like "The Message." The author goes toe to toe with his rabbinical foes and states their case fully before disproving it. If you want to witness to Jews don't you think you need to understand Judaism from their viewpoint?

As a former Catholic, I knew all too well what it is like to have the church discourage reading the bible, but I had no idea the Jews did it, too. They haven't read Isaiah 53 in synagogue in hundreds of years!

This book is solid, but you will have to grow a little as you read it. Fortunately the Holy Spirit in you is up to the task.
  • Coherent counter-arguments and evidence against objections by Jewish leaders and their followers, to spread the truth! Thank you, Eitan! God bless you!
  • A very short but to the point book that shines the light for the Jewish people to recognize their Messiah in their own Scriptures. I pray that the veil will be lifted from the eyes and hearts of the Jewish people. I pray that this book will help accomplish that.

A noted biblical scholar explores how the claim of divine choice has been used from ancient times to the present to justify territorial expansion and prejudice.

The Bible describes many individuals and groups as specially chosen by God. But does God choose at all? Michael Coogan explains the temporally layered and allusive storytelling of biblical texts and describes the world of the ancient Near East from which it emerged, laying bare the power struggles, the acts of vengeance, and persecutions made sacred by claims of chosenness.

Jumping forward to more modern contexts, Coogan reminds us how the self-designation of the Puritan colonizers of New England as God’s new Israel eventually morphed, in the United States, into the self-justifying doctrines of manifest destiny and American exceptionalism. In contemporary Israel, both fundamentalist Zionists and their evangelical American partners cite the Jews’ status as God’s chosen people as justification for taking land—for very different ends. Appropriated uncritically, the Bible has thus been used to reinforce exclusivity and superiority, with new myths based on old myths.

Finally, in place of the pernicious idea of chosenness, Coogan suggests we might instead focus on another key biblical concept taking care of the immigrant and the refugee, reminding the reader of the unusual focus on the vulnerable in both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament.

"God’s Favorites: Judaism, Christianity, and the Myth of Divine Chosenness by Professor Michael Coogan asks the question: “Does God … have favorites? Does God really prefer some individuals and groups over others?” Throughout his book he argues that it is neither reasonable nor rational to think that God would focus God’s attention on the Jews, a small, isolated, relatively unimportant group of people. Baruch Spinoza, a Dutch/Jewish philosopher of the 17th Century was excommunicated by the Jews for holding that same opinion. Spinoza was a great scholar and philosopher who analyzed the Bible thoughtfully and carefully. Like Michael Coogan, Spinoza demonstrated again and again that the Bible is “faulty, mutilated, tampered with, and inconsistent.” Spinoza and Coogan point out that “we don’t know the authors, circumstances, or dates of many biblical books. Moreover, “we cannot say into what hands they fell, nor how the numerous varying versions originated; nor, lastly, whether there were other versions, now lost.” As Coogan points out again and again, the Bible is a good and instructive story, but we cannot trust its truth value as history. He says that we should read the Bible “not as divine revelation… but rather as what different writers thought about God and how they projected on God their own views.”

In his last chapter Coogan tells us that in his view “gods do not choose people, either groups or individuals. Rather, people choose a god and then assert that that god has chosen them or their ancestors… We should abandon the myth of divine chosenness…. Fundamentally, we are all one tribe, one species, with no group, ancient or modern, specially chosen.”

Michael Coogan is a former Jesuit who is now a professor at the Harvard Divinity School. His book is carefully argued and presented with many footnotes included at the end of his book that I found helpful and instructive. His book is carefully organized and written for a general audience. That said, scholars and his students at Harvard will find that he has been rigorous in his approach to his subject, but has been careful to be clear and avoid the jargon that makes some academic writing pretentious and unreadable. His conclusions seem reasonable to me, but those readers who are true believers in the Bible as literally the Word of God are going to find much to object to in Coogan’s book."

God Favorites Judaism Christianity and the Myth of Divine Chosenness eBook Michael Coogan Reviews

  • As with all of Coogan's works, this book was excellent. I highly recommend it. A timely message of reason and clarity from one of the great biblical scholars of our day, taking head-on the tribalism that is so prevalent in humans, and in particular, religion. It was shorter than I expected. I actually wish it was longer with even more detail. But an excellent book.

His conclusions seem reasonable to me, but those readers who are true believers in the Bible as literally the Word of God are going to find much to object to in Coogan’s book.
  • Michael Coogan’s God’s Favorites Judaism, Christianity, and the Myth of Divine Closeness is based on the claim that the while the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are chock full of wisdom, they are not divine documents; rather, they are human documents laden with tribalistic prejudices in which the writers project their self-interest into their notion of their god.

The Bible writers who make claims of divine closeness are being tribalistic and painting a binary world us vs. them. The belief that one’s tribe is chosen has “pernicious effects.”

Coogan studies the “capricious god” of the Old Testament and argues that writers imposed a rational actor to massage over the wanton acts of the Old Testament Yahweh.

The New Testament God continues to be a tribalist serving the interests of the biblical writers. When confronted with biblical passages of tribalism in which God loves one person and hates another, St. Paul tries to gloss over such a cruel despot but does so unconvincingly. Coogan also shows how Paul’s notion of Christianity is in conflict with Matthew’s, which is in conflict with St. John’s.

The New Testament pivots away from calling the Jews as the chosen people to calling the Christians the chosen ones by engaging in what Coogan calls “supersessionism.”

At the end of the book, Coogan critiques American exceptionalism and concludes that all forms of exceptionalism are based on the narcissism and arrogance of tribalism.

Real faith and real humanity, Coogan argues in his conclusion, are based on loving the stranger and letting go of one’s binary tribalistic view of the world. In about 130 pages of well written prose, this book is very readable and instructive. Recommended.
  • I do not mean the title of this post in a bad way. I held many ideas, but I had never really seen them addressed before reading this book. I went to a very religious college and was surrounded by a lot of very good people. One class that I took was called "The Bible as Literature." It was the first time, I had heard from a religious person that maybe not all the stories in the Bible are completely real. Many of the stories can be found in the folklore of other cultures before they were ever written down in the Bible. A great example is Jonah and the Whale. This story also appears in writings of a number of other cultures. This book also goes a long these same lines that the Bible may not be a divine book. While I am no longer a practicing christian, I do believe that there are many parts of the Bible that are good and can lead someone to lead a remarkable life. I also believe that for those who focus on the wrong parts of the Bible, it can lead to disaster (the Spanish Inquisition is the more famous example, but there are many others as well).

One big problem I have had with the Bible is the claim that there was one chosen people. Why would God chose only one group of people to care about. Why would he not care about all the groups. The rational I had heard about this in the past is that the other groups were unrighteous. Their parents or ancestors may have know the "truth" and left it, but why would God turn his back on their decedents. I am glad to have read this book and would suggest it to anyone else who is interested in learning more. Ultimately you will have to decide how you feel about his interpretation.
